PUNE: The civic administration is likely to start distributing property tax bills from May 15, a delay of one-and-a-half months. Plans are also afoot to extend the deadline for taxpayers availing the 10% discount for timely payment to July 15.
The distribution of property tax bills was held up as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was awaiting the government notification on 40% tax discount for self-occupied properties, which was finally issued last week.
"As the distribution of tax bills is delayed, the civic administration has decided to give more time to 'diligent taxpayers' for availing the special discount of 10%. Usually, PMC allows this waiver for payments made till May 31. This year, however, the discount will be offered till July 15," a senior civic official said.
The official said a proposal to extend the deadline for 10% discount and start the distribution of tax bills from May 15 has been tabled before the standing committee. It is expected to be cleared this week.
